It is with profound sadness that family, friends, and the wider Victoria community mourn the passing of Tyson Ross Skinner, who died on July 2, 2026, at the age of 22 while on a trip to the Okanagan with friends. Though his life was tragically cut short, Tyson leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, friendship, and unwavering authenticity that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Tyson possessed a rare combination of intelligence, confidence, humor, and compassion that made people feel instantly welcome. His infectious smile, quick wit, and natural ability to connect with others allowed him to build meaningful friendships wherever he went. Whether someone had known him for years or had only just met him, Tyson had an extraordinary gift for making people feel included. Those closest to him often said there simply were no bad days when Tyson was around.

His easygoing personality allowed him to move effortlessly between every circle. He was equally comfortable among athletes, academics, children, adults, lifelong friends, and new acquaintances. His warmth, unmistakable confidence, and genuine character drew people toward him, while his loyalty ensured those friendships lasted a lifetime. Tyson encouraged others to laugh often, embrace life wholeheartedly, and never lose sight of what truly mattered.

Athletics played a defining role throughout Tyson’s life. He excelled in hockey, baseball, and golf, proudly representing the Victoria Ice Hawks, Admirals, and Mariners during his athletic career. As a member of the Lambrick Park Baseball Academy, he developed not only exceptional athletic ability but also the humility, discipline, and leadership that made him an outstanding teammate. Coaches and fellow players admired his work ethic and quiet determination, qualities that earned lasting respect both on and off the field.

Golf eventually became Tyson’s greatest passion. Working at Uplands Golf Club while pursuing his love for the game, he found happiness both on the course and in the friendships it fostered. Whether enjoying a round with family or sharing laughter with friends on the fairways, some of Tyson’s most treasured memories were created through golf. The sport reflected many of the values he carried throughout life—respect, perseverance, integrity, and loyalty.

Following his graduation from Lambrick Park Secondary School, Tyson pursued a Business degree at the University of Victoria while continuing his work at Uplands Golf Club. He approached every opportunity with quiet confidence, curiosity, and enthusiasm, steadily building a future filled with promise.

Above all, Tyson treasured his family. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Julie; his father, Dean, and Sarah; his sister, Morgan; his grandparents Karen and Peter Kvietinskas, Trevor and Gloria Sutton, Keith and Anita Skinner, and Judy and Gary McDevitt; his aunts, uncles, cousins, and the countless friends who became family.

A Celebration of Tyson’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, British Columbia, with a livestream available for those unable to attend. Guests are encouraged to dress in Tyson’s style—casual, comfortable, and authentic, just as he would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Tyson Skinner Memorial Fund through the Victoria Foundation to support students in the Lambrick Park Baseball Academy. Though Tyson’s years were few, the joy, kindness, and love he shared will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
