Matt Lent Lower Sackville Obituary, Death, Sackville Minor Hockey Association Mourns Loss

The Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Matthew “Matt” Lent, whose passing has left an immeasurable void among his family, friends, colleagues, and the many young athletes whose lives he helped shape. Remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, compassionate coach, and dedicated emergency medical services professional, Matt’s legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.

Matt is survived by his beloved wife, Terri-Lynn, and their two children, Emmerson, 11, a proud Sackville Flyer, and Georgia, 8. Family was the foundation of his life, and those closest to him say his greatest joy came from supporting his children, spending time with loved ones, and giving back to his community.

The Sackville Minor Hockey Association paid tribute to Matt’s extraordinary impact as a U11 assistant coach, describing him as someone who gave far more than his time.

“There are coaches, and then there are people like Matt,” the association shared. “As an assistant coach, he gave so much more than his time—he gave his heart.”

Matt believed in every child who stepped onto the ice. Regardless of experience or ability, he celebrated every achievement and made every player feel valued. His patience, encouragement, and unwavering positivity helped young athletes build confidence while learning lessons that extended well beyond hockey. Parents and fellow coaches admired his ability to create an environment where every child felt supported, respected, and inspired to do their best.

The association noted that “the bench will never be the same, and neither will the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him,” adding that his legacy will live on each time a Sackville Flyer takes the ice.

Beyond the hockey rink, Matt dedicated his professional life to serving others. The Nova Scotia Paramedic Professional Association also honored his memory, recognizing his contributions as an EHS Medical Communications Officer and former paramedic.

The association described him first and foremost as a devoted husband and father while remembering him as a dependable and highly respected dispatcher who consistently championed patient and crew safety. Colleagues praised his compassion, humor, professionalism, and unwavering advocacy, qualities that made him an invaluable member of the EHS Medical Communications Centre and the broader emergency health services system.

Whether responding to emergencies behind the scenes or mentoring young athletes in the community, Matt approached every responsibility with empathy, integrity, and selflessness. His calm presence and genuine concern for others earned him the admiration of coworkers, friends, and families alike.

As news of his passing spread, heartfelt tributes poured in from across Lower Sackville and beyond. Many shared memories of his kindness, generosity, and the countless ways he quietly made a difference in the lives of others.
